President, Cyber University
Hiroshi Kawahara is president of Cyber University in Fukuoka, which was founded by SoftBank in 2007 as Japan's first government certified online institution. At Cyber University, he not only teaches information technology applied to business and social ecosystems, but also made external design for Cyber University's cloud and mobile based e-learning system.
Prior to his academic career at Cyber University, he had been CTO at various start-up companies for B2B and B2C in the Softbank group where technologies played major roles in creating new business models.
He also leads MIT Venture Forum of Japan as chair to provide education programs and mentoring services to entrepreneurs. They not only host their own business plan competitions and seminars, but also provide mentoring and startup support resources to entrepreneurship programs organized by academics, NPOs, regional governments and corporations.
His own professional areas for mentoring include multimedia technologies, natural resources, aeronautics and space engineering and education.
Hiroshi received his BS in Physics with honor from Humboldt State University in California, and Sc.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Ocean Engineering.
