Laurence Kao is the founder of OPES Law and OPES IP Consulting. OPES offers high-quality, customized legal services while also incubates cutting-edge technology from point of view of intellectual property protection.
For the incubated technology, OPES builds a solid foundation of intellectual property protection within major markets while further nurturing the technology by providing business model, scientific direction and IP strategy services. In essence, OPES bridges the gap between early-stage technology and industry while ensuring that the technology stands on firm intellectual property platform from which to spring for commercial success.
In addition to being a practicing attorney, Laurence is also a professor at National Chiao Tung University and Shih Hsin University, teaching courses in intellectual property laws, patent litigation, privacy laws and legal writing. Prior to founding OPES, Laurence worked at several prestigious international law firms, including Baker & McKenzie and Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner.
Before starting his legal career, Laurence was the VP of business development at a start-up wireless company in Atlanta, Georgia, primarily responsible for developing strategic alliances with engineering and manufacturing partners. Laurence began his career in New York as an associate with Credit Suisse First Boston.
Laurence is a frequent speaker and lecturer in the area of patent laws, intellectual property protection and biotechnology laws. In his spare time, Laurence enjoys competing in triathlon and collecting wines.
